What a Christmas tree stands for

My recent post makes me wonder what makes a Christmas tree symbolic at Christmastime. And I wish to thank Titov for giving me these great ideas about the significance of Christmas tree to our Christian faith. He wrote this under my comment box and I wish to repost it for everybody to know.

Here are the reasons why we have Christmas tree:

1.More and more frequently families are blessing their Christmas trees. It is good to remind children that "the tree" relates to many aspects of our faith. For example, we are reminded that our first parents were not allowed to eat from one tree, and that Christ paid the great price for our redemption by hanging on a tree (cf. Acts 5:29-32).

2. And it should be noted that Christianity has externally borrowed from pagan customs -- e.g., wedding rings, bouquets, brides wearing white, Christmas trees, and Easter eggs -- but has transformed their interior meaning to conform with Christ. Just as the Church baptizes pagans and makes them into Christians by God's grace, Christians can give old customs good, new, and richer meaning, e.g., Christmas and Easter replaced pagan feasts associated with winter and spring, respectively.

3. Pope Gregory I, who reigned from 590-604, said, "Let the shrines of idols by no means be destroyed. Let water be consecrated and sprinkled in the temples, let altars be erected...so that the people, not seeing their temples destroyed, may displace error and recognize and adore the true God....And because they were wont to sacrifice to devils, some celebration should be given in exchange for this...they should celebrate a religious feast and worship God by their feasting, so that still keeping the outward pleasure, they may more readily receive spiritual joys," quoted in John Greenway's Folklore of the Great West (Palo Alto, California: American West Publishing Company, 1970), p. 384, emphasis added.

4. On the winter solstice (December 21), pagans celebrated the feast of "Sol Invictus," the "inconquerable sun" that waned in winter-shortened days but was not "overcome" by the darkness. Christians chose to keep the natural timing of the holiday and replace its pagan meaning with the Christian message, the inconquerable Son (Jn. 1:5).

5.There are many different stories which attempt to explain why we use a tree at Christmas. For instance, St. Boniface in the eighth century gave the balsam fir tree to the Druids in place of the oak tree, the symbol of their idol. He said, "The fir tree is the wood of peace, the sign of an endless life with its evergreen branches. It points to heaven. It will never shelter deeds of blood, but rather be filled with loving gifts and rites of kindness."

6.The Jesse tree tells about Christ's ancestry through symbols and relates Scripture to salvation history, progressing from creation to the birth of Christ. The tree can be made on a poster board with the symbols glued on, or on an actual tree. For further information read, Advent and Christmas in a Catholic Home. [1]

7. The Jesse tree reminds us of Jesus' Davidic ancestry (cf. Mt. 1:1). For a greater understanding of the relationship between the house of David, Jesus, and the Catholic Church's divine origin, see CUF's FAITH FACT: "Rock Solid: The Salvation History of the Catholic Church."

God bless us all!:)

Ho!Ho!HO!

When I was a child, the idea of Santa Claus never surprised me. In fact, I didn't know about Christmas stockings to be put on the door so that Santa will fill it with gifts while I am asleep. I hadn't visualized Santa having reindeer and him making children amazed with his sleigh loaded with gifts. All I knew about Christmas was that, it's a celebration that the baby Jesus is borne. And that gifts are plainly coming from my parents and godparents. Though we were raised in a little town near the city lights, vague if i may recall, I could not recount someone ever told me tell-tales of gifts coming from a Santa. Well, somehow it did good..because I had no expectations at all. No false hope coming my way. However,I still couldn't help but wonder if I'd ever experienced the wonder of Christmas. Because some say, to make children believe that Santa is real is to never let them lose the wonder.

Now that I'm a grown-up, I am just content and happy to let children around me believe that Santa is coming our way at Christmastime! And the golden rule: NEVER LOSE THE WONDER!:)

this Christmas tree

This is Davao's giant Christmas tree. At times I wonder what makes a tree symbolic during Christmas. All I know is the star that brought to the three Magi to where baby Jesus was borne and the "belen" signifying our Lord's nativity. But I have no idea what a Christmas tree stands for.

gotcha!

Caught this little birdie one rainy morning. Must have been feeling cold already, hoping to find warmth or a good shed under the tree leaves. Shot is taken from my terrace where this tree is just some inches away. Well, I could only wish I made a clear shot of this "bird's nest".

I fear for them, nauubos na mga puno natin sa kagubatan. Pa'no na sila kung wala na talaga silang masisilungan.

stormy..

A new typhoon is visiting my country. And so we have to deal with a sudden change of weather from sunny to rainy days. The weather being unpredictable too is caused by the global warming that we are now experiencing. May we continue to plant trees and protect our environment before we'll realize that it's too late.

Phonemic Differentiation

Educated Philippine English tends to follow American rather than British pronunciation. English is often the language of choice for reading and writing among educated Filipinos, but it is less commonly used in everyday speech. As such mispronunciation can sometimes occur for English words whose spellings differ significantly from their correct American or British pronunciations.

Here are examples of common mispronounced words:

*margarine (mispronounced with hard "g" as in get instead of the "j" sound or soft "g" as in gem).
*lead ( as in lead pipe, mispronounced to sound like "lead", meaning leadership, instead of sounding like "led")
*lettuce ( mostly pronounced as spelled, which is very common to us Filipinos, instead of sounding like "letis").
*climber ( when silent b is sometimes pronounced).

Most of the peculiarities of Philippine English pronunciation have to do with the lack of certain sounds in the indigenous Philippine languages. For examples, the sound of the short "a" (as in "cap"), short "o" ( as in " cop"), and short "u" ( as in cup) are often merged into the same sound like the "a" in the "father".

But whether we have gone far or not in our use of the English language, still it's an achievement to us as non-native speakers of the language to be able to compete with the native English speakers globally.

first time

This is my dog's first time to enjoy the beach. I never thought she could swim..but she did. Perhaps, animals just eventually learn things instinctively. If you still remember this entry. She was only three mos. old there, but now, she's grown to be even more pretty than me!hek!:D

Critics on Michelle Obama's red dress

So what with the dress?! Is being fashionable obligatory for every President's wife? What an early and yet nonsense criticism!I just couldn't help but react over critics' reaction on Michelle Obama's gown on the Election night. Here's the news: All eyes on Michelle Obama's red dress.

And I was like wowww! Is this how shallow people have become to this day? And that even the subject of our intrigues only goes to prove that we have become too vane and skin-deep. We care so much on the physical aspect that we forget about real issues that concern people even more. I despise these people and neither will I apologize for my strong reaction against these critics. And I don't care if they're the most well-dressed and fashionable people on earth.

Can't we have more meaty issues other than talking about things that are skin-deep?

Will it be Obama or McCain?

A day to go and it's election day in America. I can now feel the hotseat for the two opposing parties. Will it be Obama or McCain? Elections never excite me. And I won't even wonder why. Although it's good to see new leaders and new governance, still one fact remains~ leaders only have two options, they can either be criminals or saints to the appeal of the masses. But of course, who would want a corrupt leader? or a violator of its own laws?

And to all voters: Who you vote today will reflect on how your country will appear tomorrow. And so vote carefully. Well, I can only wish America a real good luck.. though I wish doubly the same for my country Philippines.

professional ethic

I remember in my sociology subject back in college when our professor asked the class,"Do all people with etiquette have manners?" I raised my hand and answered "No!". And then my professor in turn affirmed on me. Our lesson during that time whas about proper etiquette like table manners and the like. I don't know what flashes me back to that lesson but I'm quite sure that this personal experience of mine can relate to it.

I applied in one school without any idea at all that they were actually into immediate hiring. I submitted my credentials but was never hopeful that I would hear from them right away. After an hour, I received a message from the HR personnel asking me to report the following day. The next morning, I went back for an interview. The HR head asked me how did I hear about the hiring. I plainly said that I had no idea at all that there was any hiring. We talked for about 20mins. or so. Our conversation was very casual and the HR head was plain warm and nice during the whole time of interviewing me. Right after our talk, she asked her staff to bring me to the Principal's office, perhaps for final interview. I often perceived school principals to be in their 50's or late 40's. However, to my amusement, the woman sitting inside an air-conditioned room, asking me how I am , was only in her mid 30's. And so I thought she must have been a very intellectual woman to be an achiever already at such an age.

When she was about to interview me, the phone near her rang. And with just a split second I heard her already conversing with the other person on the line. Her words went this way. "I like the other one ( referring to the other applicant who came in first for an interview before me)". She went on saying, "I really like her,.. Yeah, we're eying for her..she's my bet...ok, she's here already(referring to me)I haven't talked to her yet..I still have to talk to her (me)...ok." And then she put down the phone and faced me, asked me only one or two questions and then told me to just wait for their call.

Whoaaa! What would you feel hearing professionals talking in front of an applicant voting for one againts the other? I was so disappointed with what I heard that I so wanted to evaporate from my chair. In my mind, do they know that I have feelings too? Can't she have at least professional decency or ethical manner to talk about this matter with her subordinates in private?

Ethics means the rules or standards governing the conduct of a person or the members of a profession. Was the principal ever aware with her action during that time? or just too overwhelmed to have voted for the other applicant and forgot that I was there? Or was i just being sensitive?

My college professor was indeed right for asking us then. And I was indeed right for saying "No".

eye condition..

My eye condition changes my ordinary routine of staying long in front of the PC monitor. The eye doctor once advised me never to remove my glasses, only when in bed or shower. But being stubborn isn't easy..hehe!(sabi din kasi ng iba lalo daw tataas ang grado ng mata kapag nasanay na sa eyeglasses). Also not being used to wearing glasses wherever I go, I only wear it when situation calls. And so, here I am, facing the consequence of my action..yay!

Anyway, I have here a souvenir of my cousins' exciting trip at one of the beautiful beaches in the island of Bohol last summer. Ang saya nila no?kakainggit!hehe..

Blog Act against POVERTY

I wish to join with the rest of bloggers around the globe in the "blog act day'08" about the issue on POVERTY.

I remember a priest narrating his experience being assigned into a very poor community. He even slept in a room where roof leaked and when rain would pour, they had to ready a small pail to catch the water from atop. And then later he ended his sharing by saying, " let us practice and even teach our children the act of giving instead of the act of asking". It moved me.

"For a man who has much but is not willing to share--he still has nothing. BUT for a man who has very less yet still willing to share--he has more than enough."

Let's fight against poverty. Be a gift.

refresh..restart..click!

This is my story each time i start to sit down in front of my PC monitor. Most of the time, the PC would hang up and so i have to click refresh and if it won't work, i have to restart..ahhh! And to restart means waiting for another minutes to have it on because the system would run in slow motion. errr!may varicose veins na'ko sa kamay and my fingers are calloused..:0

But my story doesn't end there. As this has been part of my daily rounds, i've much realization about it. Isn't it that life is like that? It gives you a blow, then it would hang up and so to deal with it, we have to refresh our selves..restart things where we messed up with and click on a decision that might give clearer vision than the first attempt..enduringly deal things that are in 'slow mo' until we are able to surmount our own issue.

Refresh..restart..click is like an old adage that goes, "try and try until you succeed".

go back to basic

To go back to basic doesn't literally mean, you'll use sodium chloride, as in "salt" in brushing your teeth or make a fire out of friction between two heated stone. Going back to basic doesn't also mean you will no longer live like what you already have today and go back to being primitive.

I say "go back to basic" because what we learn in our elementary days might actually be what we just missed to apply in our day to day encounter with life and things. Well, I have not read the book "Things I've learned from Kindergarten" but somehow I've idea that my "go back to basic" can be assimilated. During my time, finishing kindergarten was not a prerequisite to enter elementary. Admittedly, I did not actually go through kindergarten..hehe!

For a life that is now too complex like prices of commodities go much higher and education becomes even too commercialized...you realize that even if you work and study doubly in order to get and learn things..your wants and needs however became even too complicated. And you still end up feeling frustrated at the end of the day. And so perhaps what our teachers taught us in our elementary days might probably the things we need to apply today.

To recount the things taught in elementary, here are few I consider as tips:

1. Learn to save.- If you only earn P7000/month, you may save P500 of it. Of course, you don't spend more than what you only earn (unless there are emergencies). So that you will still be able to enjoy that hard-earned money instead of thinking how to distribute your money for debts you will have to pay. One thing, don't invest things that your budget cannot afford. Acting on impulse is dangerous. Learn to hold back, stop and think.

2. Learn to share.- I have very little "baon" when I was in elementary and I even thought how could I share that. But I realized that no matter how little you have, that becomes big when shared. "Blessings will always look small when we hold them in our hands but when shared to others, it becomes great".

3. Respect your elders or others as well.- This is optional. Values formation is a behavioral pattern. It's the same as "what you sow is what you reap or do unto others what you want others do unto you".

4. Be Punctual. - Whether at work, an interview, a presentation or in school, be sure to get there on time. As an old cliche goes, " early bird catches worm". Stop adhering on the "the Filipino time" habit.

and lastly..

5. Learn about the Subject-Verb agreement.- I don't know if it has relevance to the previous tips I mentioned, but I noticed that our difficulty in constructing simple sentence often marked up on not being able to reconcile with our subject and predicate. Just go back to the basic grammar rules that "a singular subject uses singular verb and a plural subject uses a plural verb".

Well I sure hope that these "go back to basic" tips will do. Have a great weekend ahead!:)

My best friend's wedding

I met my best friend Chris back in high school. As some say that "birds of same feather flock together", that is how we were. We only laugh at each other's mistake and bloopers instead of criticizing each other. Our common bond just like other best of friends is simply "laughter". Our friendship grew deeper even after we finished college. Though we didn't go to the same school in college. We still had the time for a get together with our rest of "barkada" like going to the beach for an overnight or just a sing-along fun at home. But things changed when we already found job of our own while the rest of our friends got married. We no longer saw each other then as much as we'd wanted to.

However, that gap didn't affect us that much. I was too preoccupied with my work while my best friend enjoyed his courtship to a common friend and later on became his sweetheart. But the relationship was not as plausible as it may seem. I know for a fact that my best friend had other girlfriend aside from that common friend. I advised him to end the first one before he'd jump to a new one. But it was a sorry attempt. He couldn't find the courage to end the first relationship.. other than the fact that he was more in love to the second one. And just like any other love story of a man cheating his girl, there happened a big confrontation. The two ladies met and my best friend ended like a mouse in its trap. And he had to choose bet. the two. He chose the second one. But just when I thought that he would finally have his best love story ever heard, their relationship didn't last. The girl he chose found another man in the internet. This time it was the girl who gave him up. But my best friend was so in love with her that he'd really die to have her back. If it was 'karma' that Chris got, I don't know. But the girl didn't love him anymore.

During those times when Chris was broken hearted, we would see each other for some times esp. during special occasions like birthdays and common friend's wedding. My best friend has his own way of making me believe that he was OK. There were invitations from him like eating out for a dinner or going to the movie that I rejected. Little did I realize that those were the times when he needed me. Some even say that we could have bee more than friends had I only gave him the chance to show his feelings. But I brushed aside the idea not wanting to take advantage of what we already have.

On the early week of December 2006, my best friend married the lady he rejected during his bout on his break-up to the girl he truly loves. The wedding was exclusively for their both families, close relatives and friends. I didn't know about the wedding and so I realized perhaps, I was no longer a part of him. For a couple of months, I did not talk to him. But he was persistent in wooing me to have my friendship back. I accepted his apology.

After being married for a year, I heard him still asking details about the girl he was so in love with. I felt sad. He's still in love with his ex. When I heard this song, only one person popped up in my mind. Could it be my best friend's story?

acculturated

A study has shown that one of the most fluent speakers of English in the world are the Filipinos. Roaming around the Blogosphere somehow helped me prove this theory. Most Filipino bloggers have great command of the English language, if we notice.

Education, being the American's legacy to us during their era of empowerment, has remained the most valued part of life's learning process for every Filipino family. We always believe on the idea that "education determines success in one's life". Some may not adhere on this belief "philosophically". But as for me, the formal training for learning is only through education.

I congratulate the Americans for their strong influence in the spread of the English language. But most of all, I salute the Filipino people for the great actual performance of the language.

Well, I guess this only goes to prove that Filipinos do get acculturated easily.

Confused Statue

We had fun roaming around 'crocodile park' when i noticed this statue in between cages of animals. I don't know why such figure is placed inside an animal park. But if i would have to infer the idea, then perhaps, just perhaps this looking confused statue in bowed manner has not yet able to reconcile with being an existent of this world--would he rather be one of the animals around him or would he be just like any other ordinary human being. Just my lousy assumption anyway!haha!

What about you?any idea why it's there or why like that?:-)

Is it cloudy in heaven?

"Everything has its own purpose under heaven."

Phonenumberinvestigator.com

Have you been feeling not secured in getting phone calls where owners' don't wanna be identified? In my case, I received phone calls before that really annoyed me. A phone number investigator Reports Annoying Callers to ensure that we must remain secure within our lot.

Whether the calls are pranks, from debt collectors, telemarketers, a phone survey company or maybe just a wrong number, we can now get easy access to identify them. After typing the phone numbers at the key "search", we can also send on our comments or suggestions about the unwanted numbers. We can now log on to phonenumberinvestigator.com for more details.

my PC is teaching me about patience

Working on with my PC even from the start hasn't been easy for me. There are times when i had to deal with its "tantrum". And that just as human, even things have their way to test us what real virtue is. And as for my PC, it's teaching me "patience". There are times when I am in a hurry to finish a certain job but my PC would hang up for like more than 15-20 minutes and I have no option but wait 'til it gets me down to business. Ahh!Instead of feeling anxious over the thought of having my PC as my attitude determiner in some instance, I guess i just have to thank it still for the virtue it's teaching me.

Well, "Patience is a virtue" indeed!:)

Don't climb!

If you notice the banner in between two pine trees, the message there says, "Ayaw katkati ang punoan ( Don't climb at the tree) ". Yet, I couldn't help but smile at it when I noticed that the body of these two situated pine trees are actually too thin and even swaying. And so in my own premise, how can one actually climb at it? Well, I guess this message refers to the children. Aww! I just forgot that I am no longer one of them. hehe!

USAPhoneLookups.com

Trace your caller immediately! Have an easy access to a phone search database online. A Reverse Phone Number Lookup will help you trace unregistered numbers that you receive. A time to work and a time to play

Just as the hands of the clock tick-tack too fast, I see us humans too as running after the time like there's no tomorrow.

Sometimes, we need to be like children who never lose the wonder in life. For them, as there is a time for study, there must also be a time to rest and play.

May we be like little children, not missing the importance of celebrating life.

And that out of our busy days, we too deserve a good break. To see to it that in life, there is a time for everything.

A time to work and a time to play. :-)

Report unwanted calls!

Do unwanted calls keep bothering you? Their nuisance is now over. You can now Report Who Called You . Just type in the phone number if there are comments, same as you do, about an unwanted calls. Kalachuchi: Used to be my favorite

I don't actually know how to call this flower in the English term, but this is otherwise known as "kalachuchi" in our own local term. Well, I say that this kind of flower really blossoms up with me. It has been the witness of my childhood days. Aside from its own aroma, this has a lot of functions to us. We used this as our offering to the Altar of our chapel and we also have this as our decorations when we celebrate fiesta in our little barrio. But the most funny thing about it is that, when I was little, we used this flower as part of our game also known as "takyan" in bisayan term. That is why this "kalachuchi" is very memorable to me for most of my childhood days.

National Phonebook

Receiving unregistered cell numbers or even phone numbers hasn't been easy for me. Especially when owners of these numbers do not want to be identified. I am referring to prank calls or those who just want to bully around. They keep me irritating for sometimes. And that out of being impatient, I would sometimes opt to have my phone off for a while. But I know it won't help esp. when there are important calls or messages that I must not missed.

This time, I will no longer worry in dealing with unregistered numbers. The National Phone Book is now ready to help me get through with it. Aside from the hassle of identifying unwanted calls, I will also be provided with a local and state phone book directory information. This is a phonebook provider that will help me search the owner of any phone number from almost all States in U.S and their area code.

For more details, just visit nationalphonebook.org and a phonebook database service provider is ready to serve you!

Tolerance

I often hear people say that the most important and even hard things in all forms of relationship are faithfulness and honesty. Well I say, let's include tolerance. But I also say that it's hard...because tolerance includes accepting the most unacceptable characteristics of the one you love. It's when you realize that you have to bear with another person's temper without completely losing your sense of pride as a person. You realize that you can never change the way he/she is according to what's simply comfortable and ideal for you...all because along with loving entails sacrifice, and along with this sacrifice entails genuine feelings for people.

We simply don't tolerate people we care for, we impose discipline..but then after all's been said and done..you will go back to the same old rule....I tell you...because you value these people...because you love your wife or husband..because you love your kids...because you love your friends.

Because you LOVE...you learn to tolerate because that's what loving your relationship with people tells you to.

My online phonebook

Ever since I have my new cellphone with me, this keeps me "on-the-go" whenever I have important appointments with business clients. However, there are times that I overlook some of my clients' numbers. These are numbers from whom I forgot to register in my cellular phone. Now, my dilemma is over. I already have a Phone Book Lookup to help me search for the names and even cellphone numbers I have not registered.

The search is very easy. I can already locate them by just registering their cell phone number, phone number or a phone search. This is a very easy access wherein 50 State phone books can provide me the first and last name, street address, city, and state of the owner. Results are given immediately. This is very helpful too in identifying prank calls or messages because this also provides additional information, such as background reports can be completed.

i kissed dating good-bye

* once upon a time i was once like the other falling in love for the first time...and i was also once like the other badly hurt out of it ,for the first time. and so before i kissed dating good-bye, i put my pain into words...

I don’t know how long I have endured the silence.
That deafening silence that you so kept within yourself,
that not even the clanging of cymbals could ever equal its loudness.
I cried.
I cried in the empty silence of solitude.

Just how bitter was the pill you shoved down my throat!
Such was the only pain that I so want for an answer..
If all for you was just a game then just say, “you win!”.
But please go without ever taking away my self-esteem.

Say “ good bye”...
Just say goodbye… and don’t explain why.
The word is already enough to prove it all.
Say “ goodbye”… in case you feel the guilt.
or say it… in case you realize...that you actually just forget.

Have your brain test

Saw this brain test from pretty Janj's site. I got curious and so I gave myself a try. This is what I got. And somehow it tells almost exactly about me.:)

Right-brained

Most right-brained people like you are flexible in many realms of their lives. Whether picking up on the nuances of musical concerto, appreciating the subtle details in a work of art, or seeing the world from a different perspective, right-brained people are creative, imaginative, and attuned to their surroundings.

People probably see your thinking process as boundless, and that might translate to your physical surroundings as well. Some people think of you as messier than others. It's not that you're disorganized, it's just that you might use different systems to organize (by theme, by subject, by color). Straight alphabetization and rigidly ordered folders are not typical of right-brained behavior.

You are also more intuitive than many. When it comes to reading literature, you probably prefer creative writing or fiction over nonfiction. And when it comes to doing math, you might find you enjoy geometry more than other forms like algebra.

***weee, hindi kolang sure if i'd ever enjoyed dealing with numbers as a student then..but for sure I've learned to love it now esp. when I have to learn how to budget..hehe!

i am

"I think, therefore I am", according to Rene Descartes.

I have always been feeling so lousy when talking about defining myself. If you notice my profile. Not that I am much too reserved as a person. Just that I prefer people around me esp. those who know me best to be the ones who'll tell me how I am as an existent being. I guess, what I can only afford to tell is that I am capable of something that "somehow" will make me equal to what God wants me to be. Well, sounds vague though. Please for those who find my idea unclear, "i apologize for that". (Tao lang!hehe!)

Well, what I only mean is that, "I can't tell exactly in words who I am, but my attempt to write about life here in general will, perhaps. People may find it weird but this is how I feel when you ask about me. However, I hope one day I will have my own popularize line like that of Descartes. Maybe then, it will exactly define me :)

This is my favorite shot of Samal Island in Davao del Norte. Got this shot through my old Nokia phone, now no longer functioning. Hayyzz!I miss that phone. I always get good shots using it. It had been with me through all the times when I needed to capture moments. I guess it's true that you will only learn the value of one thing once it's gone. I wish I can avail another good phone like my old one some time before the year ends.

First day high...

October 1 is declared non-working holiday in observance of the end of Ramadan for our Muslim brothers.

I remember when I was still a student. I felt like holiday is the most important day of my life..haha! I think even to some, they feel the same way. When the teacher would declare that there will be no classes, the whole class would really shout for joy. And then we'd have get together during holiday with the 'barkada' as if it's the last day of our life. I still smile each I remember my high school days. When life just seemed too simple. Even when I was always first in line during exam days to the school registrar's office bringing with me promissory note inorder to take the exam. hayyzzz! high school life talaga..nakakamiss kahit papano.

Though I have best friends from high school whom I still get to see sometimes, of course this time the 'get together' we once had is no longer as often as we wanted to. We now have priorities of our own like jobs and family. Life is like that, "you can't hold on to people and memories..all eventually come and go..but you just have to look back and cherish them."

Christmas countdown is on the airwave

wowww!the clock is ticking so fast. 92 days to go before hitting Christmas. now i've been thinking what i could possibly offer for my godchildren or magtatago ako!hehe! it's their day!kapag pasko talaga ang mga bata di mo matatawaran ang tuwa lalo't nakakatanggap ng gifts. well, Christmas is for everyone. let's not limit this occasion to children alone. but even though the holiday rush is yet to come, i think am starting to see joy each time i hear people starting to make Christmas countdown. i dont know if the holiday still excites some, but as for me, i feel like Christmas is the very time i see people in their best smile esp. when reunions with long lost relatives, family members, or even acquintances come.

i really do hope that we'll still see joy and magic about the holiday even though crisis is hitting in every corner. Godbless everyone! may we see hope in every day to find real meaning in life.

Thanks Pchi!

I am personally extending my gratitude to my fellow bisaya blogger Pchi for this really awesome award. Though this response is quite late, want you to know that I never forget. Thank you my friend!

My country's tomorrow

I do not possess any extraordinary power to foretell the future. I am not even good at predicting things. But as I see it now, I am starting to fear my country's tomorrow if I will have to envision it from how it is running today. Skilled workers are continually working and living abroad while the Philippines is left with amateur ones. I am starting to fear our shortage of medical practitioners esp. doctors and nurses. Nursing schools have been cropping up everywhere to cater numerous students who want to take up nursing ( for a single reason- to go abroad). We trained our students so well in the medical profession only to find out that they are prepared not for this country's future generation but for the foreign lands. This is not about being patriotic or nationalistic. This is about getting into the realization that we have become even poorer and will soon be the poorest with our resources in terms of workers.

We all practically would want to work abroad to alleviate poverty. However, I still wish that our government will work on the issue that my country is already suffering from shortage of skilled workers esp. in the medical profession and even teachers. If the continuing stream of sending workers abroad will not be controlled, I wonder what best will be left for my country's tomorrow in the next ten or twenty years?

5 essential weight loss foods

Found this interesting article from Dr. Mao for all health conscious individuals out there. As we all know that "health is wealth", may these tips help you in achieving a good and healthy diet.

1. Millet: A well-balanced diet should consist of whole grains instead of refined grains like white rice and pasta, and millet is a beneficial and delicious staple of this category of food. This non-glutinous grain is over 10-percent protein, has high amounts of fiber and B-complex vitamins, and because it isn't an acid forming food, is easy to digest.

2. Asparagus: When losing weight, it's important to favor chlorophyll-rich foods, including asparagus. Asparagus is a nutrient-rich vegetable packed with folate, vitamins A, C, and K, and fiber. Asparagus also contains a carbohydrate known as inulin (not to be confused with insulin) that promotes healthy bacteria in the large intestine - which in turn promotes a healthier digestive function.

3. Pomegranates: Eating a balanced diet to lose weight should include eating fresh fruits, and pomegranates are a wonderful example of a healthy, nutritious fruit that has antioxidant properties and will help prevent cancer. While the benefits of drinking pomegranate juice have gained a lot of attention recently, you will be more likely to lose weight by eating the fruit fresh to increase your fiber intake and keep the calories down.

4. Pine Nuts: Pine nuts are the edible seeds of pine trees and are considered an essential ingredient in the tasty Italian mixture pesto. Chinese medicine uses pine nuts to improve gastrointestinal tract and digestive functions, and pine nut oil is even used for appetite suppression. Pine nuts and other nuts are a tasty part of a well-balanced diet intended for weight loss.

5. Green Tea: It has been found that consuming large amounts of coffee and caffeine can lead to food cravings, increase one's appetite, and induce stress-related eating. Green tea is a wonderful alternative to coffee in that it does provide a little caffeine but also contains beneficial antioxidants. So drink up!

( Source: Dr. Mao's Secrets of Longevity )

***On thing more to complete a balance lifestyle- don't forget to make exercise part of your routine. I think an hour to sweat around would be enough to have your blood in good circulation and help release excess fats in your body. Have a healthy and smiley day ahead!:-)

Out in the field

It's good to be home again.

In the daily hush of life, from waking up in the morning to taking our meal, up to being on call for work, I realized that somehow we are a lot like soldiers who are out in the field to face our own battles. It's a call for duty, we may say. But the duty is not only to keep us awake and earn a living inorder to survive. Because if we only see life as such, then I see us as nothing but just like ants whose existence is just all about survival. We all need more than the meals we set on our table. We need the time to be with our family, loved ones and friends. In other words, we need each other to complete each other as human.

Well, why am I saying this? For some times I was out from the blogosphere to attend things I must. I don't mean survival alone but the moments to keep things in balance. Just as there is a time to speak while its important that we keep the time too to listen. Being out from blogging was like being out to face my battle. Now being back into blogging is simply giving me the joy to be back home again. I miss this... but most of all.. I miss everyone! :-)

the unemployed graduate

An unemployed graduate woke up one morning and checked his pocket. All he had left was $10. He decided to use it to buy food and then wait for death as he was too proud to go begging. He was frustrated as he could find no job, and nobody was ready to help him. He bought food and as he sat down to eat, an old man and two little children came along and asked him to help them with food as they had not eaten for almost a week.. He looked at them. They were so lean that he could see their bones coming out. Their eyes had gone into the socket. With the last bit of compassion he had, he gave them the food. The old man and children prayed that God would bless and prosper him and then gave him a very old coin. The young graduate said to them 'you need the prayer more than I do'.

With no money, no job, no food, the young graduate went under the bridge to rest and wait for death. As he was about to sleep, he saw an old newspaper on the ground. He picked it up, and suddenly he saw an advertisement for people with old coins to come to a certain address.

He decided to go there with the old coin the old man gave him. On getting to the place, he gave the proprietor the coin. The proprietor screamed, brought out a big book and showed the young gr aduate a photograph. This same old coin was worth 3 million dollars. The young graduate was overjoyed as the proprietor gave him a bank draft for 3 million dollars within an hour. He collected the Bank Draft and went in search of the old man and little children.

By the time he got to where he left them eating, they had gone. He asked the owner of the canteen if he knew them. He said no but they left a note for you. He quickly opened the note thinking it would lead him to find them.

This is what the note said: 'You gave us your all and we have rewarded you back with the coin,' signed God the Father, The Son and The Holy Ghost.
***wonderful lesson and realization.

I haven't been on for quite awhile for some personal and important reasons. And these are the moments when we have to decide how to put things into better perspective inspite of the busyness. However then, seems to me that blogging has already gotten into my nerve. And I couldn't help but keep myself updated with what's new.

I cannot think of right materials to keep posted as of the moment. My mind is currently a "blank sheet"..but I know it's still good to be at least back on my feet again. Life is like that. There are toss and turns. To let the daily hush of life penetrate you, however still able to keep into balance. Woooh!feels like am too way serious.haha!

I miss you all fellow bloggers...hope time will grant me more space to hop and visit your sites and share with your thoughts soon! take care everyone.:-)

What is Ramadan for the Muslims?

"The name "Ramadan" is the name of the ninth month. The word itself derived from an Arabic word *rmd as in "ramida" or "ar-ramad" denoting intense heat, scorched ground, and shortness of rations. It is considered the most venerated and blessed month of the Islamic year. Prayers, *sawm (fasting), charity, and self-accountability are especially stressed at this time. Religious observances associated with Ramadan are kept throughout the month. It is the Islamic month of fasting, in which participating Muslims do not eat or drink anything from dawn until sunset. Fasting is meant to teach the person patience and humility. It is a time to fast for the sake of God, and to offer even more prayer than usual. In Ramadan, Muslims ask forgiveness for past sins, pray for guidance into the future, ask for help in refrain from everyday evils and try to purify themselves through self-restraint and good deeds." (source: wikipedia.com).

In light of this month's observance of Ramadan, may our Muslim brothers even put to practice what the Islamic teachings are deeply rooted into in view of their search for genuine peace.

Though am a borne Catholic, my deep respect for others' religion remains intact. I remain hopeful that inspite of our differences in beliefs or ideals, may we be united into reaching one common goal- and that is PEACE.

This blogging thing

I am not good in manipulating objects that repond to the evolution of high technology. My field of work is far from what we now call "modernization". In fact, I am already adept to using manuals that are already obsolete when compared to what are used in this present time. Once before, I was only content and happy to write my thoughts in an old used notebook as my diary. Now who would thought that my journaling of my personal encounters in life would be elevated by the technology of today?

Let's just say " i just stumbled one day into this blogging thing". One morning I woke up already having my own PC when once upon a time, I only long to have my own typewriter(haha!). Simple goal but God is so good and His blessings are simply overflowing. And though this time, the whole world knows what are in my thoughts and yet I still see joy in the package of it all by knowing new friends and different personalities in the world wide web. And that what a big supermarket actually there is that the world can offer. Thanks to great personalities I now know and the more wonderful people I will know in this blogging thing.

Enjoy your hop!:D

Davao's People's Park

Located at the heart of
Davao, this is especially
initiated and built
not only for
the lumads of Davao
but for all tourists.

Being a resident of this city, I am proud to introduce one of Davao's finest parks, the”People’s Park”. It has a very wide area with lots of exciting and wondrous views where people from all ages get to enjoy. Within its boundary, you also get to see artificial bodies of water like waterfalls and riverside. (too bad I wasn't able to give a good
shot of them.:( ..
The People's Park can also be considered to be an eco-park for it has wide range of trees from different variants. The bountiful blessings that Davao has for its abundance with natural resources is also being showcased by the park leaving prints and symbols of its very own artifacts (like statues of Datus and tribes of Davao).

The cone-shaped of one building's rooftop situated inside the park ( from the entrance) brings attraction too. With all the bounty of natural resources and great tourist spots that the city is blessed to have, I will always regard Davao as one of the finest cities in the world today!

***Forgive my photos--not clear though. Am not good in photography(hehe!)but I hope to give better shots next time. God bless everyone!

natural yet healty tips

Keeping your body fit and healthy all the time doesn't always mean taking your daily doze of (synthetic) vitamins or your doctor's prescriptions. Sometimes or most of the times it is way better to be conscious with your actions too during your regular routine. A lot of us may think that we lose our health because we work too hard 24/7 or have been emotionally stressed out by broken relationships or acquired health problems. Well, who knows its only the absence of scientific knowledge that oddly contributes a lot in making our body weak and unfit? Well I think this time, forwarded email does greatly help.

Here are some natural ways to stay fit and healthy:

1. Answer the phone by LEFT ear.
2. Do not drink coffee TWICE a day.
3. Do not take pills with COOL water.
4. Do not have HUGE meals after 5pm.
5. Reduce the amount of OILY food you consume.
6. Drink more WATER in the morning, less at night.
7. Keep your distance from hand phone CHARGERS.
8. Do not use headphones/earphone for LONG period of time..
9. Best sleeping time is from 10pm at night to 6am in the morning.
10. Do not lie down immediately after taking medicine before sleeping.
11. When battery is down to the LAST grid/bar, do not answer the phone as the radiation is 1000 times.

So stay fit and be happy. A good smile can stretch a hundred of your face muscles too to keep wrinkles away and stay fresh and younger-looking! Take it from me..that's one secret of staying young!:-)

generation-X

"Bata, bata paano kana magsalita?"

Time flies so fast and seems to me that the ticking of the clock in this present time doubly runs than the yesteryears. Too much have changed and technology develops without our notice. And most of all, values and traditions are slowly deteriorating. The sad thing is that, because of the sudden rise of the demands of technology, teens nowadays have grown to be even more experimental also brought about by strong peer influence. Influences not in the abode of good moral values but in the helmet of a devastating evil. I wonder how our future generation would appear to be if misguided teens would just be left overcrowding almost everywhere.

One time, I lost my internet connection and so I went to a nearby net cafe. Little did I notice that I am mixed with young ones playing online games. While I was oblivious to them finding them too preoccupied with the games, I couldn't help but notice how their hasty expressions while playing echoed on me like a big cacophony of an angry devil. They hailed, shouted, cursed like true devil's advocate! How would you feel hearing 7-15 yrs. old shouting "bu****t!" or "y***a"(satan's a.k.a in bisayan dialect) for a lot times? Whew! (nalisang ko kadali) Each shout was like a big-bang to my ears. Do the parents of these young ones know exactly what their children are doing outside?sigh!:(

Their irritating exchanged of cursing words made me felt like I was in Dante's Inferno not filled with winged angels but with horned devils. And then I started to wonder what strong implication does it bring to the generation of today. I left after awhile at the cafe with the hope and pray that I will not be hearing my future sons or daughters with demonic expressions as they'll be growing up one day.
