status

"If you are trying to show off for people at the top, forget it. They will look down at you anyhow. And if you're trying to show off for people at the bottom, forget it. They will only envy you. Status will get you nowhere. Only an open heart will allow you to float equally between everyone."

Davao's People's Park

Located at the heart of
Davao, this is especially
initiated and built
not only for
the lumads of Davao
but for all tourists.

Being a resident of this city, I am proud to introduce one of Davao's finest parks, the”People’s Park”. It has a very wide area with lots of exciting and wondrous views where people from all ages get to enjoy. Within its boundary, you also get to see artificial bodies of water like waterfalls and riverside. (too bad I wasn't able to give a good
shot of them.:( ..
The People's Park can also be considered to be an eco-park for it has wide range of trees from different variants. The bountiful blessings that Davao has for its abundance with natural resources is also being showcased by the park leaving prints and symbols of its very own artifacts (like statues of Datus and tribes of Davao).

The cone-shaped of one building's rooftop situated inside the park ( from the entrance) brings attraction too. With all the bounty of natural resources and great tourist spots that the city is blessed to have, I will always regard Davao as one of the finest cities in the world today!

***Forgive my photos--not clear though. Am not good in photography(hehe!)but I hope to give better shots next time. God bless everyone!

natural yet healty tips

Keeping your body fit and healthy all the time doesn't always mean taking your daily doze of (synthetic) vitamins or your doctor's prescriptions. Sometimes or most of the times it is way better to be conscious with your actions too during your regular routine. A lot of us may think that we lose our health because we work too hard 24/7 or have been emotionally stressed out by broken relationships or acquired health problems. Well, who knows its only the absence of scientific knowledge that oddly contributes a lot in making our body weak and unfit? Well I think this time, forwarded email does greatly help.

Here are some natural ways to stay fit and healthy:

1. Answer the phone by LEFT ear.
2. Do not drink coffee TWICE a day.
3. Do not take pills with COOL water.
4. Do not have HUGE meals after 5pm.
5. Reduce the amount of OILY food you consume.
6. Drink more WATER in the morning, less at night.
7. Keep your distance from hand phone CHARGERS.
8. Do not use headphones/earphone for LONG period of time..
9. Best sleeping time is from 10pm at night to 6am in the morning.
10. Do not lie down immediately after taking medicine before sleeping.
11. When battery is down to the LAST grid/bar, do not answer the phone as the radiation is 1000 times.

So stay fit and be happy. A good smile can stretch a hundred of your face muscles too to keep wrinkles away and stay fresh and younger-looking! Take it from me..that's one secret of staying young!:-)

generation-X

"Bata, bata paano kana magsalita?"

Time flies so fast and seems to me that the ticking of the clock in this present time doubly runs than the yesteryears. Too much have changed and technology develops without our notice. And most of all, values and traditions are slowly deteriorating. The sad thing is that, because of the sudden rise of the demands of technology, teens nowadays have grown to be even more experimental also brought about by strong peer influence. Influences not in the abode of good moral values but in the helmet of a devastating evil. I wonder how our future generation would appear to be if misguided teens would just be left overcrowding almost everywhere.

One time, I lost my internet connection and so I went to a nearby net cafe. Little did I notice that I am mixed with young ones playing online games. While I was oblivious to them finding them too preoccupied with the games, I couldn't help but notice how their hasty expressions while playing echoed on me like a big cacophony of an angry devil. They hailed, shouted, cursed like true devil's advocate! How would you feel hearing 7-15 yrs. old shouting "bu****t!" or "y***a"(satan's a.k.a in bisayan dialect) for a lot times? Whew! (nalisang ko kadali) Each shout was like a big-bang to my ears. Do the parents of these young ones know exactly what their children are doing outside?sigh!:(

Their irritating exchanged of cursing words made me felt like I was in Dante's Inferno not filled with winged angels but with horned devils. And then I started to wonder what strong implication does it bring to the generation of today. I left after awhile at the cafe with the hope and pray that I will not be hearing my future sons or daughters with demonic expressions as they'll be growing up one day.

In memory of Ninoy

Today is holiday in the Philippines as we commemorate the death of Ninoy Aquino. A friend, whom Ninoy had a conversation before he bravely decided to go back to the Philippines, showed their taped conversation about Ninoy's knowledge on the plot of his death on his homecoming. It was so moving when Ninoy spoke with much conviction. A character of a real hero who is never afraid to die for his people. And on August 21, 1983, while unable yet to land his feet on the ground, he was shot dead.

Ninoy's death was like Jesus Christ's death on the cross. Both with one common end--to save the people from their sins at the time of our Lord and to free the people from a dictator and crude leader at the time of Ninoy. All for the people and not for their own self interest. Both in a form of selfless act.

I hope when our real heroes died, our country's hope for a better society didn't die with them too. So help us God.

My second step towards meme...

This my 2nd tag from Panaderos (thanks my friend!). It's called "6 x 4" meme since for each of its six questions, the blogger is asked to provide four answers. However, as I read the mechanics, I've been thinking really hard enough(LOL) where on earth will I get my 4 answers for each..haha! But as promised to a very good fellow, I'll give it a good try.

Here are the meme's rules: Click copy/paste, type in your answers and tag four people in your lists! Don’t forget to change my answers to the questions with that of yours.

1. Four places I go to, over and over:

b. McDonald (binabalik-balikan ko lang po ang coke float with choco dip!slurrppp! esp. when its too sunny and i need a very good refreshment)

d. TAPS (tapsilog, longsilog, bangsilog..lahat ng may -log!) love it there!much cheaper yet busog parin!)

4. Four places i’d rather be:
a. Davao
(my real home)
b. Baguio City
c. Beaches
(particularly Boracay..dream of it with my love)
d. anywhere in Europe (it's good to dream though!)

Davao's Kadayawan Festival

Davao is famous for its Mt. Apo as the Philippines' highest peak; Durian as the king of fruits(of which some tagged to be "smells like hell but taste like heaven"); and Waling-waling as the queen of orchids. It is also a haven of the awesome Philippine Eagle as the national bird.

The bountiful harvest of flowers, fruits and its ethnic culture gave birth to a "Kadayawan Festival" as the folks of Davao's thanksgiving celebration for the abundance of it all. The festivity is held every month of August (every 3rd week of August) as a long week celebration of the lumads of Davao. Kadayawan festival showcases a lot of performances by the Davaoenos including float parade and "Katutubo" dance contest as one of the highlights of the event while wearing their colorful native costume.

Come to my place now and join us in this remarkable festive!Madayaw Dabaw! Dali na kamo!:)

still remember some tagalog terms?

Being a true blooded Filipino, I admit that sometimes it makes me feel guilty not to recognize the "Tagalog" term of a certain thing.

The invasion of Americans and Spaniards brought too much influence to the evolution of language in the Philippines. And because of this, Filipinos seem to be the most easy to get adapted with their languages. Even reaching to a point of forgetting to speak our own language in straight manner. We unconsciously get to speak "taglish" if not appearing to be "konyo" individuals.

In my roaming around the blogosphere, I noticed that out of 100% Filipino bloggers, about 80% uses foreign language. While the remaining percentage are those who still advocate the use of Tagalog which is more conventional of course. Because of this fact, it simply shows that we, Filipinos, are the ones easy to learn foreign language esp. on the English language. The only sad thing out of it perhaps is that going beyond that wit, we even forget the tagalog term of a certain thing.

But of course, you don't go to the store to say, "Pabili nga ng kwaderno." But will say, "Pabili nga ng notebook." Otherwise you will appear "makata" for your straight tagalog or the one you're talking to doesn't exactly understand the term "kwaderno". Owing the fact that you are both Filipinos. We have become used to our taglish way of speaking such as "Natapos mo na ba ang homework mo?" or "Magda-drive ako mamaya."

The term "konyo", however, is a neologism that refers to the people often considered to be the children of affluent families. They are often tagged to be "sossy" in a way. Example of this is, "Let's make tusok ng fishballs". Konyo is a phrase combining the English verb "make" with the base form of the tagalog verb.

The term "cake" for example is still "keyk" in sound but only differs in spelling. This is what we call "borrowed term." The terms "mama o papa" that we got from the Spaniards that we are still using as we address our parents. These great influences only prove that even language evolves and changes from time to time. But inspite of this, may we not forget too our national language even we have already gone far and have traveled around the globe.

the sin of lying

Priest: Next Sunday, i'll preach about the sin of lying. To understand more, I want you all to read Mark chapter 17.

(the following sunday...)

Priest: How many of you had read Mark chapter 17?

(almost everybody raised a hand...except for a guy who is dressed like a gangster...)

Priest: Why my son? you haven't read what I told you?

Guy: Well, I can't seem to find the 17th chapter.

Priest: (smiled) Mark has only 16 chapters. Let's now proceed with the sermon on the sin of lying....

how to deal

Today is 8-08-08 , a date some say "a lucky day!" (gudluck sa mga magpapasakal..este papakasal, sa mga mag-oopen ng business, sa mga maglilipat bahay.. pati narin sa mga akyat-bahay (hehe!) sa araw na eto!) Hence, let us not just keep on adhering on old beliefs 'coz regardless of the date, our destiny still depends on our hardwork and good way of living. Anyway, for the job-seekers, to make your fate a real chance of luck, I have here short tips (as promised) on how to deal with a job interview.

One of the most challenging stages of a newly graduate is to succumb ones' self into a job interview. Who knows what kind of interviewer you might have? Would he/she be intimidating or not? Strict or cool? And as all those apprehensions remain clogged-up in your mind, these will only add up a pressure as to how you are going to deal with the interview.

And so to shift your mood, I have here short healthy tips on how to deal with a job interview:

a. Pray (never lose touch that God can perform a miracle everyday).
b. Be calm (don't panic and stop entertaining negative thoughts).
c. Condition your mind ( so that you can answer the questions thrown to you).
d.Be in good posture (this includes your proper attire and gestures).
e. Smile( but don't overdo--in other words, "wag OA or pa-cute).
f. Be modest ( this means don't display a sign of arrogance).

Well, I do hope that these simple tips you will help you somehow! Break a leg!Good luck!! Chow!:)

Job-hunting in the Philippine setting

To job-hunt is easy but being "hunted" for a job isn't!:)

If we have thousands of graduates each year and available job opportunities are only half the population of those graduates, where do we put the rest? Granted that one call center company is in search for call center agents. And that out of 100 applicants only 40 pass for the final screening while only 15 are finally hired, what luck awaits then for the ones not accepted? (surely they've already lined up to their sweat and money to get passport and visa to find their luck in foreign lands). sigh!:o

The sad thing is that we only have very few graduates who acquire linguistic competence able to answer an English speaker interviewer with fluency. However, this is the reality when you are a job-seeker in the Philippine context.

Some say that being hired for a good job esp. in the Philippine setting is just a matter of luck, while some claim that it's a matter of having good scholastic record plus determination and guts. Hence, in some instance, if you are not accepted because you don't have "padreno, kapit, or under the table" connection, you will go home hoping that you were not raised or born in this kind of country. (haha!) That's what some say that job-seeking nowadays is about "it's whom you know and not what you know". tsk!tsk!

However, I still would want to correct those wrong notions about job-hunting in the Philippines. 'Will give you short tips on how to deal a job interview in my next post.:)

life

When we only see life with all its physicality and expect about what the finite things around can do to to us--we will only end up in frustration. Because the world is full of deceptions that if we are not cautious to them--we become victims of our own impulsive judgments. Because by nature, man can easily adapt to what the world adheres him to be. But when we see life as something we can make a better change--not thinking of what the outside world can do us but that what we can contribute to it, then perhaps we can expect change... improvement...and a better world.

We are not supposed to expect too much from life but rather let life finds us capable of making it at least a better one, if not perfecting it. So that we will see our existence not only consists of a cosmic body of physicality that only aims for physical survival. But of soul able to reach beyond the beautiful that is not confounded in the naked eye alone but in the so many abstractions of life like love, kindness and sensitivity.

Only then perhaps, we can stop complaining from life that is full of trials and sufferings and go instead to our innate capability, not confined with selfishness or ego but with the aim for a worthwhile cause ---maybe then life will have fullness and meaning.
