five years curriculum

The CHED (Commission on Higher Education) proposed a five-year college curriculum for Liberal Arts(AB), Education and Nursing courses. The reason is that the CHED wants an even more quality graduates. OK, i got the point. Easy to understand , right? The intention is clear-QUALITY GRADUATE. But wait, do these people in this office stop to realize how bad our economy has become, financial crisis so alarming and and parents work their butt 24/7 only to sustain the needs of their children especially on educational finances? Well, I think I'll see more undergraduates in the next millennium if this proposed plan of CHED for 2010 will push through.

Well, I suggest that instead of adding one year for these courses, why don't they just plan on having more trainings and seminars for teachers for them to be even more effective in their fields? More programs that will enhance the capabilities of teachers in the teaching profession. The intention of CHED is however good for our future graduates but taking a closer look of the other side of the coin, one year is another burden to all parents or gurdians' part. Ang sa aking lang, hirap na nga tayong magpaaral ng anak sa college dadagdagan pa ng CHED ang pasanin ng mga magulang.

And so for me, I say NO to this proposal and yes to more trainings and seminars for all educators. Makisimpatiya naman tayo sa hirap ng buhay ngayon. There is an alternative to all our goals where none will be affected. Sa aking opinyon, wala naman yun sa haba ng taon ang learning eh, it's in the training grounds for the students to be competent when they graduate. And a good training ground already started by the time we learn the ABC's in kindergarten.

who am i

One fine Saturday afternoon, while washing the dishes, a loud noise from one room in the house got me pissed off. I stopped to sneak what was the fuzz. And there I saw my 11-year-old nephew (my nephews are used to visit us home during weekends) singing loudly with the song online. I asked him to lower the volume finding my nephews already grown to be a little wild in their choice of music. I've always abhorred rock music esp. when it's just plain noise and lyrics have no substance. I do not see it an art in an aspect. Art has to have substance, i believe. However, as i looked at the lyrics of the song, i felt ashamed to have realized that what I thought to be just plain rock music that my nephew was so into, is a song about an ordinary one to an extraordinary God. I don't know if my nephew has really come to understand the meaning of the song other than just liking its melody. The following morning, I went to hear mass. The church is just a walking distance from where I reside. The theme of the mass was about "conversion". I don't know if it was just mere coincidence that while the priest went on with his sermon, he sang some lines from the song that my nephew just listened to on that Saturday afternoon. The priest associated the song to the theme of the mass that got me teary-eyed. I don't know if it's the music that moved me or the thought of an 11-year-old boy liking the song or must have been feeling the message of it at such an age. I don't know exactly what lesson does the music try to press on me but I know that if there's one thing that I learned on that very day, it's being able to control my emotion from the noise around me and listen more with patience to God's message of love out of life's cacophony. Here goes the song...

Who am I?
That the Lord of all the earth,
Would care to know my name,
Would care to feel my hurt.
Who am I?
That the bright and morning star,
Would choose to light the way,
For my ever wandering heart.

Bridge:
Not because of who I am,
But because of what you've done.
Not because of what I've done,
But because of who you are.

Chorus:
I am a flower quickly fading,
Here today and gone tomorrow,
A wave tossed in the ocean,
A vapor in the wind.
Still you hear me when I'm calling,
Lord, you catch me when I'm falling,
And you've told me who I am.
I am yours.
I am yours.

Who am I?
That the eyes that see my sin
Would look on me with love
And watch me rise again.
Who am I?
That the voice that calmed the sea,
Would call out through the rain,
And calm the storm in me.

Not because of who I am,
But because of what you've done.
Not because of what I've done,
But because of who you are.

I am a flower quickly fading,
Here today and gone tomorrow,
A wave tossed in the ocean,
A vapor in the wind.
Still you hear me when I'm calling,
Lord, you catch me when I'm falling,
And you've told me who I am.
I am yours.

Not because of who I am,
But because of what you've done.
Not because of what I've done,
But because of who you are.

I am a flower quickly fading,
Here today and gone tomorrow,
A wave tossed in the ocean,
A vapor in the wind.
Still you hear me when I'm calling,
Lord, you catch me when I'm falling,
And you've told me who I am.
I am yours.
I am yours.

I am yours.

Whom shall I fear?
Whom shall I fear?
'Cause I am yours.
I am yours.

Let's talk about age

I remember quite well when my language professor reminded us one time that, "it is unethical to ask an elder of his/her age." Well, she must be right. However, some of my classmates in language class weren't really convinced about her view, they tried to get other teacher's point of view, also from a lady professor of almost same age as our language prof. She was our teacher in literature. Her views went this way, "asking about one's age depends on one's sensitivity or openness about the idea. If you were to ask me about my age, well, that's fine with me. I am open to it."

Well, talking about sensitivity is a lot also different from talking about acceptance. Whether we like it or not, we will age. I've known some who cower over the idea that they're already in their early and mid 40's. They feel awkward to think about aging in their part. Sometimes I wonder what is it really about aging that we all are afraid to look at. Isn't it wonderful to realize that we have gone far enough in life? Well, unless one has aged and yet hasn't learned from life yet. I personally respect how some people see the aging thing as a big issue. To ask or not to ask about it..it doesn't really matter to me. But what really matters is that, even when we keep the idea of getting older within ourselves each year, we'll never forget to thank God about what we have become as a person to be so blessed to enjoy more about the things in life. :)

Put a style on your windows!

Interior designing is not only every housewife's hobby but everybody's aim to modernize their homes. We want to make sure that no matter how simple our homes may be, we still aim to put a touch of elegance in it. One of the things that add grandeur to every home is decorating our windows and put style on them. As for my personal choice, I prefer the use of wrought iron double curtain rods as one of my window treatments . It is my very way to put a touch of elegance on them. I have always wanted to make things within my home full of life and surprises. And decorating is my life! When my mother just finished designing her two-storey house with four bedrooms in the second floor, I suggest that she may also start decorating her bedrooms' windows with war style curtain rods since I've known her to be still very much in love with the old antique styles.

Well, at this present in time it is really time-consuming to search for the best materials for our home decors. Designing our home putting finesse on it can sometimes be pressuring. We may come to our friends or relatives to consult or ask for very good suggestions. Finding my mom at her age, I don't want her to feel the headache of choosing or looking for the best store in town for her home designing. I, then search
the easy way for her. And so I suggest looking for the best Wrought Iron web store online for her windows. I found one superb store that offers also very good discount price for all! The wroughtironhaven.com has its way to give its customer a satisfactory service while offering 1,300 home & garden items for everybody to choose from. My mom is very choosy in her choice of color for her curtains and the designs of her windows. Well, I think I also got the same trait from her as I too am very particular with the styles of my home decorations. The styles that I mean do not only limit on how to decorate my windows but every little detail that I want to put into my furnitures. Style your homes with the touch of antique, elegant and timeless through wroughtironhaven.com .

Decorating our interior can be fun! I see life as full of surprises each time I start to do the make-over in my home. Friends couldn't help but feel awed and yet so much relaxed each time they see how I put grandeur in my interior. Of course I also would want to share how I've come up with the idea in designing. I need not to look and pay a professional interior designer to make my house even more elegant-looking yet simple. I told my friends that I only have one very good secret to make things possible without making me too tired to drive in town searching for the best home decors. And that even if I get too stressed coming from work, I still get to relax and get a good breathing space in my home. My very great help in all these is just a click away from my pc's keyboard and its nothing else but wroughtironhaven.com!

To note

I am packing up some old stuff in a storage unit while waiting for the breaking news about Obama's inauguration today. Watching Americans in t.v, hmm.. they must be excited.:)

My sister's boots

My elder sister has been living far from us for years I can no longer count. Ever since she finished high school, she always has the drive to venture into things that interest her. And though my father was at first resistant about letting one of his children go, he has no choice. Later then he realized that seeing us his children already growing up looking for each of our goals in life, he learned to respect our decisions in life. My sister wasn't just content living in another city from from us, but she even went farther by deciding to live in a far away, strange, foreign land. For more than three years now, she is working in one of the hospitals in UK. Her first year there was full of adjustment. The place , the people and the weather, all new to her. But then finding her a very tough woman, she later then became used to it.

My sisters third homecoming was quite surprising to me. Saw her as very different woman now. Even more fashionable than the last time I saw her. Arriving home last December, wearing her cutie Boots and a black mini skirt with plunging neckline blouse, I was a bit fascinated and shocked. I saw the influence that the foreign land brought her. She has grown to be even more elegant with her looks. However, found her still not losing her simplicity in taste of food. Well, for sure she just missed the Filipino delicacies. OH, how i wish I can wear boots on dAY! I have one here but I still couldn't grasp the nerve to wear one.Haha!

faithfully

Am not really the fanatic type you know. But when it comes to music I am. Not with the singers in particular (well of course other than considering the voice) but I often go for melody and lyrics. I happened to see Arnel Pineda singing this on stage one time. While listening closely to the lyrics, I thought of searching for the song online. And I listened to it already for like fives times since. As for my personal review..i just love the message. Well talking about loving would just make me smile. I guess there is really no such thing as finding the wrong person. I only believe that we just haven't found our perfect match. I think this is an early valentine post!:)

Highway run
Into the midnight sun
Wheels go round and round
You're on my mind
Restless hearts
Sleep alone tonight
Sendin all my love
Along the wire

They say that the road
Aint no place to start a family
Right down the line
Its been you and me
And lovin a music man
Aint always what its supposed to be
Oh girl you stand by me
Im forever yours...faithfully

Circus life
Under the big top world
We all need the clowns
To make us smile
Through space and time
Always another show
Wondering where I am
Lost without you

And being apart ain't easy
On this love affair
Two strangers learn to fall in love again
I get the joy
Of rediscovering you
Oh girl, you stand by me
Im forever yours...faithfully

Oh, oh, oh, oh
Faithfully, Im still yours
Im forever yours
Ever yours...faithfully

Charice keeps shining on..

The new Philippines' pride international singer Charice Pempengco keeps shining on as she will to perform on the inauguration of the newly-elect Pres. Barack Obama on January 20, 2009 in Washington, DC. (more of the news here..) It is with much pride for us Filipinos to have been represented by the talented Charice. This only goes to prove that in spite of the very poor rating of the Philippine economy and of our government, still we are able to show to the world that Filipinos can make a good contribution and bring big impact into the international scene. Having international artists like Charice Pempengco, Arnel Pineda and the boxing champs Manny Pacquiao and the rest of our Phil. artists, Filipinos couldn't just be left behind.

We all are gifted individuals in our own way. I believe that there are a lot of unsung heroes we also have around us. And we all can shine our way!:)

Have a great weekend ahead everyone!take care..

The New 7 wonders

Puerto Princesa Subterranean River: Philippines' Official entry for the New 7 wonders.
I thought of voting for the new7wonders of the world hoping i could vote for our entry here in the Philippines. But as I surfed online, saw that new7wonders.com already comes up with the Official 7 Wonders of the World . I figured that the Taj Mahal of India and the Great Wall of China have really retained their crowns. These are the wonders of the world that I am so familiar with if would look back to my history subject as a student.

Anyway, its really hard to choose out of the so many wonders of the world. It makes us realize that God's gifts to mankind are so overwhelming. :)

a chosen profession..

"A teacher affects eternity; you can never tell where his influence stops."
- Henry Adams

Teaching is not a childhood dream. When my mother told me about one instance back when I was still growing up, she said, "I mentioned her that I want to be a nurse". In the back of my mind, I smiled over the idea because I grew up so afraid of doctors' needles, of hospitals and more medical stuff. And so I started to wonder how did I ever come up with the idea of being a nurse as a child. Well, so much for that. I finished my college degree still not knowing where I would be heading. I took English as my preparatory to law school. But when i started with my first job as a tutor to rich kids and handled a 14-year old special child as a full time teacher to him, I realized that there is more to this calling. I forgot about the high dreams that would add me prestige (somehow) and be labeled(atty. or dr.) before my first name.

My first classroom experience taught me what it's like to deal with teens who are still groping for what luck awaits for them in their chosen course. And since I was assigned then in a far flung area some miles away from the city where I am used to, I had to adapt myself with the inconvenience that entails patience and perseverance. I managed my class in ways that I never wanted to see a single student just sitting in one corner out of shyness (when I used to be as a student) or of being uninterested. We used to have lively discussions that at every end of the day, I couldn't stop from thanking God for leading me to this kind of profession.

But I still have a very long way to go, I know. And that teaching doesn't end in the four walls of the classroom but it has to help learners get there exactly to where they want to be. Life is not about who we are as professionals but it's how we are to those we dealt with everyday: our values, concerns, motives and our ends in everything we do. It's more than the income that goes to our wallet or bank account. It's about touching people..it's affecting their lives and inspiring them to be better individuals if not best. It's letting them dream to their potentials as gifted and highest living creations.

I haven't been there. I haven't proven much to my learners to be too proud of it..but at least I aspire to get there. I remain hopeful.

Yes, as in "PULL"

Pretty sure these translations are not meant for the foreign people who cannot understand our language/dialect. This is simply meant for us Filipinos who cannot follow simple instructions. Must admit it, sometimes we are not good at following what's instructed on our door steps nor conscious about it as long as we can get in. When the 'pulling' becomes 'pushing' or the other way around.. am guilty of this sometimes!hehe! And so can't blame the store owners even if they have to fill their doors with lot of translations.

And for this one..i don't think customers still have an excuse not to understand what they mean esp. with "PULL".:D

Happy 2009 ahead of us!

New Year Resolution

When I say 'yes' when I only mean 'no' in the end..this is how bad i am when i am asked to make a promise. And at times I ended up disappointing people. Yes, I have my collective flaws. I am no hero. No more than the one you just come across with ordinarily along the street. I walk with clumsiness. Like a year older little girl still learning how to walk fast with good balance. I can't dance. I often shudder when i talk in front of many. I am not used to being the center of attraction. I am content to stay in the background. Some people despised me when I start to smile. Because I can't think of the right way to say "I can't make it" . Only because I can't afford to see their hurt look because I fail them.

Now I can only wish that I can make a New Year's resolution: to say 'no' even if it means have to disappoint them. As i welcome 2009, I want to thank God for all i've met along the way. And that even if i failed some of them at times..there are still warm greetings for this New Year that has reached me to feel enough that I am still rich..not with objects but with people and good friends who haven't left!

Happy New Year everyone!
Let's toast and cheer for 2009!
God bless us all!
